On a busy night you can hear the laughter and chatter from outside the bar. It definitely has a cozy Irish atmosphere and is very popular amongst the English speaking community in Stockholm. The main floor or street level where the main bar is located has comfortable communal seating. Find your way downstairs or what is formally called the “Jameson Cellar” and there is another smaller bar and more table seating spread around the cavern like basement. Wirströms gives you a reason to come back besides just the food and drink with free entertainment, which includes music five nights a week, an amateur open mic night, quiz night every other Thursday, sports on TV and a set of dart boards. Check the website to see a schedule of events.
The Food: Wirströms offers up a typical pub menu with some unique twists all served in generous portions. If you are in the mood for something light, their bar menu offers from a variety of fingers foods such as Basket of Fries, Nachos and Chicken Wings to something a little healthier with a Greek or Caesar salads for those wanting. Their club sandwiches are also quite tasty. If you ready for a full meal, check out the hamburgers which are served in a variety of ways; BBQ, Hawaiian, Chili, along with your basic burger which is served with two slices of cheese and bacon. If beef is not to your taste there are also the Fish, Chicken and Vegetarian burgers. The specialty menu is very Irish inspired with the Bangers and Mash, Fish and Chips and the Full Irish Breakfast. All the meals are served until 9:30pm but the bar menu is available until closing. Wirströms also offers catering for parties and you can book a private room at no extra cost.
The Drinks: The bartenders here know how to pour a Guinness in proper fashion, which is just one of the beers on the 25 taps at Wirströms. The taps circle round the bar but don’t let the Irish reputation fool you as they offer quality beers from not only the UK, but Czech, Belgium, Germany, USA, along with your Scandinavian regulars like Hof, all at very reasonable prices. In fact, nothing on the beer menu, whether out of the tap or from the bottle costs more then 62sek. While at the bar, something that will definitely catch your eye is the wall of whiskey behind the bartenders. The menu boasts over 100 bottles available for your pleasure. If you can gather at least eight friends who enjoy whiskey too, inquire about booking one of their private tastings. Check the bar menu for the mixed drinks; the Classic Irish Coffee is quite popular.
