As families return from their holidays, the city celebrates by putting on a fantastic show. The Culture Festival, which will electrify the city in the middle of August, is definitely not to be missed, but there are loads of other activities to enjoy too. From building and sailing your own model ships to running the kids’ version of Midnattsloppet; from waffle-making at the Icebar to a graffiti exhibition. We’ve got it all in a neat little list just for you.
Model Boat Weekend at the Maritime Museum
Calling all boat model enthusiasts! The maritime museum hosts its annual model weekend, where all sorts of boats can be see to sail the waters outside the museum. Build your own boat in the workshop area, Ruskpricken.

Stockholm’s Culture Festival 2013
Running for the 8th year, Maxat för mini is an explosion of activities and experiences for everyone. Highlights include dance taster sessions (including Indian, African, ballet and baby rhythmics), circus performers with clowns and acrobats, meeting the police, theatre, sing-a-long, crafting and story-telling. Midnattsloppet for the young
Do your children want a taste of THE running event in Stockholm this August?
For 1-8 year olds, there is MiniMil, a 300m race up Hornsgatan starting and finishing at Bysistorget. The activities start at 14:30, with face painting and entertainment; the first race starts at 16:30. A T-shirt and medal will be given to all participants.
8-15 year olds can participate in Lilla Midnattsloppet, which starts at the same place as Midnattsloppet itself: the ringroad outside Zinkensdamms IP. After 1775m the race finishes at Bysistorget, Hornsgatan where all runners will receive a medal, beverage and fruit. The six finishers in each class receive prizes in an awards ceremony directly after the race is over.

WALLS OF FAME: Graffiti Exhibition
This summer, the Riksteatern takes three graffiti masters MADC, Bates and CHAOS on a unique graffiti tour of five Swedish municipalities. The first stop will be a full day with the live painting superstars at the open wall at Subtopia. In addition to live painting, there will be a barbecue and beats brought to you by the accompanying DJs.

Igelbäckens Dag with Överjärva gård
At Igelbäcken nature reserve in Ulriksdals park, Överjärva gård arranges a day out where children and adults collect aquatic animals together and then study them under a microscope. Scientists from the Natural History Museum and the County Administration will try and find the rare fish, Grönling. There will also be a scavenger hunt and pony rides.

With over 175,000 visitors, We Are Sthlm (previously Ung08) is the largest festival in Europe aimed specifically at young people. The (Viking) ships are coming!
The ships are coming! Viking and medieval boats dock at the Maritime Museum’s berth in Djurgårdsbrunnsviken. There’ll be some really fun activities around the museum.
In addition to the ships, there are also historic market activities. From 10:00 to 17:00 you can see blacksmiths and carpenters demonstrating historic naval art and get the chance to buy costumes and objects. During the day there will also be demonstrations of Viking martial activities – on land and at sea!
