On the last day of activities at Stockholm Fashion Week we were very keen to see one particular event taking place at Berns. This was Beckmans School of Design’s fashion show.

In it, 12 final-year design students from Beckmans School of Design had the opportunity to present collections developed in partnership with six Nordic brands. These brands were the Swedish Hope, Oscar Jacobson, Whyred and Örjan Andersson; Danish 2NDDAY and Finnish Marimekko; who generously shared ideas and techniques to the students in the fashion program and the resulting works of the students were meant to interpret those already established fashion brands.

Asymmetry and outsized proportions were the main constant in the presented looks, giving to many of the pieces a deserved place in the catwalk, but not much room to wear out in the streets though. The wide legged trousers in vaporous fabrics were basic in all the collections. Out with the tight trousers and in with the wide!

What was new? The use of bright and contrasting colours such as red, blue, orange and yellow, that we normally don’t see in the Autumn Winter collections, especially here in Scandinavia. Bandanas tied up in a pirate style and the patent leather high heel boots for men, both part of Alecsander Rothschild‘s collection.

We saw the classically tailored pin-striped being given an urban and modern makeover giving it a return that could be adapted for both men and women’s perfect office outfits.

The ‘drouser’ half trouser half dress or skirt, is a new piece that we’ve been seeing in the catwalks of many fashion houses around the world. It was also present in Linchao Zhang‘s and Josephine Johnzon‘s collections, this was definitely one of our favourites, let’s see how far will the ‘drouser’ make it in 2017 and 2018.
