The snow finally made an appearance yesterday and whether this makes you shriek childishly with glee (like me) or sigh heavily – sooner or later there’ll be the need to wrap up warm and venture out. Stockholm winter can be a frosty heaven or a slushy hell – it is hard to know what to expect – but the trick to not look (and feel) like a yeti is layering and finding the right pieces.
A/W 2013 was rife with fantastic fake fur coats (sorry I can’t bring myself to use the word faux) and furry or woolly accessories. Normally not very into fake and too animal-rights conscious to go for real fur, this reluctant YLC fashionista has been known to stay away from the fur-lined scene altogether – however, THIS year, it seems there is reason for a change of heart.
Practically everyone who is anyone has included fake fur in their lines for the fall and winter and hence – there is a broad array of options – from the full length fur coat to the fur-lined accessories.
My sister’s hot pink fake fur from circa 1989 is forgotten (if not forgiven) and I have ventured out to take a look at what is out there – reasonable priced – and ready to wear.
The hats range from the classic cossack hat in colours from (fake) mink to sable, trendy pastel coloured ones with fur lining and earflaps, which will keep even the coldest of Siberian winds at bay. However, if you want to keep your hair from getting flattened (like my mother and various aunts) there is an array of woolly headbands and furry earmuffs that may suit you better.
For that Hollywood-look, there are fake fur scarves, stoles and collars – not to mention the different length fur coats – anything goes, it would seem.
Whatever you choose, make sure you wrap up warm!
