Stockholm is perhaps one of the best places to travel to when you have kids in tow. There is an abundance of activities that are family-friendly and ideal for parents who want to spend the whole day in one space instead of traveling to various locations. Here are five places that you and the kids can visit during your next trip to the Swedish city.
1. Junibacken
Pack your kid-friendly luggage and prepare for a day of adventure! Sweden’s most famous children’s author, Astrid Lindgren, has an interactive museum that will keep the kids intrigued for hours. Junibacken has illustrated characters such as Pippi Longstocking, Emil, and the Brothers Lionheart. Stockholm’s Royal Dramatic Theater created many of the exhibitions, which makes the experience that much more significant. Take a train ride through Astrid’s world for memories of a lifetime.
2. Tekniska Museet
Also referred to as the Technical Museum, Tekniska Museet has everything that science lovers crave. Even kids who are not fanatics of the subject will enjoy this site that has both permanent and temporary exhibitions.
3. Biking
Nothing beats the outdoors in Stockholm. There are bike lanes throughout town to accommodate you and the kids’ exploration. Parents who do not feel safe traveling through the central part of the city via bicycle with the kids may find it cozier on the Djurgården island which offers an environment with less traffic.
4. Skansen
You cannot come to Stockholm and miss out on the world’s first open-air museum. Skansen has reindeer, bears, wolves, and more interesting animals on display so that you and the kids can be intrigued. There is also space for you and the family to view ancient buildings that date back to more than 150 years ago. Skansen is perhaps one of the most interactive places for families in Sweden with gardens and a playground on site. There are gift shops and several restaurants that allow you to make a trip to the museum an all day affair.
5. Gröna Lund
Gröna Lund is an amusement park in Stockholm that offers more than the usual rides for thrills and gift shops for keepsakes. The attraction features some of the greatest musical hits in town during its live performances all while offering kids the opportunity to win giant chocolate bars through various activities. One ferry ride takes you right to Gröna Lund’s doorstep, and many of the rides extend over the water for an even greater sight of the land. Various restaurants and bars are also within the amusement park’s quarters so that you and the family do not have to leave until you are truly done for the day.
Stockholm has many options for adults and children. It doesn’t take much effort to find the city’s jewels, but planning for a day out with the kids is best.
