Comic Con in always the place to be for all kinds of nerdy fun, from cosplay to comics, and from retro gaming to board games. But this year we had extra fun nerding over music!
Comic Con Stockholm is currently being held twice a year, and the one in the dark time of year was held on the autumn school break as usual, which always bodes well for attendance.
Comic Con would not be Comic Con without the cosplayers, and the number of people getting dressed up as characters from movies, games, anime and more in creative ways just seems to be increasing year by year. Indeed we hear the Cosplay Parade was the longest ever at Comic Con Stockholm!
But being a music nerd, Sunday’s music-filled programme held the biggest interest for me this year. First of all, there was a very interesting panel discussion on songwriting for K-pop acts. The panel consisted of Sunshine and Moonshine, two dynamic duos who often work together crafting bangers for K-pop artists. Sunshine are Moa ”Cazzi Opeia” Carlebecker and Ellen Berg, who are mainly topliners in the songwriting process, and Moonshine consists of Ludvig Evers and Jonatan Gusmar, who are producers.
The four of them told plenty of interesting anecdotes about their songwriting process and the audience got to hear and see some of their number one hits with Korean artists, such as Peek-a-Boo from Red Velvet, which was actually the first song the four of them wrote together.
They explained, among other things, how they are originally writing the lyrics in English, and that they then get translated to Korean once an artist wants to record the song. Obviously some bits are usually left in English as well, as K-pop is having more and more of an international appeal. It also became clear how K-pop really has much less rules and restrictions regarding the structure and form of a pop song, which these songwriters really seem to enjoy.
Moa AKA Cazzi Opeia also did an interview of her own at the Heroes Talk section of Comic Con, where she talked more about K-pop as well as her own musical career and the times she has participated in Melodifestival. She also got a lot of great questions from the audience, especially the very young fans in attendance.
The youngsters’ love for all things Korean and Japanese was clearly showing at the Comic Con floor and beside genius K-pop songwriters, they had also brought out some J-pop artists. Mion, Runo Tauchi and Juna Shinno were performing live on the Heroes Perform stage to the delight of the audience. Here’s a pick of some of our favorite pictures from their performances…
