One of Swedish pop’s biggest names, Darin, played at Gröna Lund on a warm September evening and gave the crowd exactly what they wanted.
The Swedish-Kurdish pop phenomenon Darin Zanyar had his breakthrough on the first season of Swedish Idol all the way back in 2004, finishing second (but pretty much nobody remembers the winner). Darin was the one that captivated the audiences, and quickly became the premier pop star of the moment with hit songs like Step Up.
His appearance on the 2012 season of Så Mycket Bättre gave him renewed commercial success and solidified his status as a big favorite of the masses. His versions from the programme also paved the way for his Swedish-language music.
Darin has continued to be productive, putting out both beautiful ballads in Swedish and electrifying disco bangers in English. He has released a total of nine albums, and eight of those have made it to number one in the Swedish charts. He’s also gained an international following, with success especially in Italy. He’s even played for the Pope in the Vatican.
The Gröna Lund setlist included more than 20 hits from his illustrious career, highlighting all the different eras along the way. From the recent disco hit Electric to the SMB favorites Astrologen and En apa som liknar dig, to the extremely popular ballad En säng av rosor, and finishing up on a high note with his classic pop hit Nobody knows.
