Parallel with her successes on the big screen, like Becoming Astrid, and the small screen, like Knutby and Netflix’s The Rain, Alba August is now becoming a bona fide popstar. She released her debut album I Still Hide late last year and is now up for Swedish Grammis awards in two categories, Best Alternative Pop and Newcomer of the Year.
Alba made an impression already when we saw her last summer at United’s mini-festival at Fåfängan, so we simply had to see her again now that she’s out on the road for a few live shows. As the tour dates didn’t include Stockholm, we made our way to Uppsala and Katalin.
Alba kept the audience in her grip from the start and seemed rather taken with the warm reception. She delivered most of the songs from her album, and it was clear that several of the songs are excellent live material. Killing Time as the opener set the mood, Honey was a clear favorite of the audience, and So Alive got everybody singing along and feeling alive. Lights was another sing-along moment and Old Love at the end got the audience clapping along in rhythm, as they should.
When things ended up on such a high note, the audience were clapping and shouting for an encore for a long while, which didn’t happen, so that would be something to be prepared for the next time around.
Here are some of our pictures from Alba’s show at Katalin.
