With the days getting colder and darker, it’s the perfect time for some glögg and festive cheer from one of the many Christmas markets going on in Stockholm. While the crowds head to the well-known markets at Skansen and Gamla Stan during November and December, we’ve chosen our picks of other wonderful Christmas markets you might not have heard of.
Stortorget’s Christmas Market
Stortorget’s Christmas Market runs every day of December until 23 December. Opening hours: Every day between 11 am and 6 pm. At the Christmas market you will find 41 stalls selling everything from candies, art forging, sausages & venison, handicrafts, mulled wine, cotton candy, ceramics and much, much more.
Stortorget’s Christmas market has its origins in the medieval markets in Stockholm and today’s Christmas market started in 1837, it has, with a break in the years 1907 – 1914 and 2020, continued continuously since then. That makes it the oldest Christmas market in Stockholm and Sweden.

Skeppsholmsgårdens Christmas market
On the weekend of the third Advent (16-17 December) there will be a Christmas market in the Skeppsholmsgården area.
This Christmas market has a nautical and craft theme where they gather blacksmiths, jewellery makers and other craftsmen for a unique Christmas market on Skeppsholmen. They decorate the quay with fir rice and light some fires. Coffee and light food will be available for sale both outside and inside. There will also be an open house in their course premises. The Christmas market runs on Saturday and Sunday between 11-17.

Filmstaden Christmas market
Filmstaden offers a Christmas market in classic film style, held in the building where film greats such as Greta Garbo and Ingmar Bergman started their careers. As well as market stalls selling arts and crafts, there will be guided tours, film screenings and live performances. There will also be traditional Lucia festivities.

Färgfabriken Christmas bazaar
At the Färgfabriken Christmas Market 9-10 December, 100 vendors will participate distributed on the top floor, the main hall and the courtyard. The market will be open at 11-17 both days. In addition to market vendors, they offer delicious food and drinks, live music, DJs, artistic content and a good time!

Skansen’s Christmas market
The open-air museum Skansen, located in Stockholm’s Royal Djurgården (a national city park), is a major Swedish attraction. Its historic Christmas market has been a calendar highlight since 1903. Stroll around the stalls and stock up on traditional Christmas food and handicrafts made by local craftsmen on-site. Kids will love all that Skansen has to offer – from meeting the resident animals to participating in craft workshops.

Växholm’s Christmas market
A traditional Christmas market with crackers, roasted almonds, handicrafts, mulled wine and fir trees, and – of course – there’s also a visit from Santa. Vaxholm’s traditional Christmas market is also held at Lägret. More information on the website.
