Vårsalongen, an annual jury-judged exhibition held at Liljevalchs konsthall, marks the beginning of the art year in Stockholm. Since its inception in 1921, this cherished tradition has evolved into a lively celebration of art, welcoming participants and visitors alike from February 9 to April 21st.
At Vårsalongen, artists from diverse backgrounds and styles converge to showcase their works, making it the country’s oldest unbroken exhibition format. Each piece is available for sale, with prices set by the participants themselves, allowing art enthusiasts to acquire unique pieces directly from the artists.
With an audience of approximately 100,000 people, Vårsalongen has become a significant public event, offering exhibitors unparalleled visibility and exposure. Visitors have the opportunity to engage with a wide range of artistic expressions, from paintings and sculptures to video art, ceramics, textiles, and more.
To purchase artwork, visitors are encouraged to visit Liljevalchs konsthall during the exhibition period. Each piece is sold on a first-come, first-served basis, with a tag system in place on the first day. Throughout the exhibition, visitors can inquire about purchasing their desired artwork at Liljevalchs store and make arrangements for payment and collection.
This year’s Vårsalongen features 298 works by a new generation of artists, showcasing a diverse array of techniques and materials. From paintings and sculptures to installations and AI-generated art, the exhibition reflects the creativity and innovation of contemporary artists.
The jury for Vårsalongen 2024, comprised of art gallery manager Joanna Sandell Wright, curators Ashik Zaman and Tawanda Appiah, and Olympic equestrian Peder Fredricson, selected works that capture a broad spectrum of colors, shapes, and impressions. The exhibition catalog provides insight into each exhibitor’s background and artistic practice, offering a comprehensive overview of the showcased artworks.
