Soccer Starz is a football course for kids ages 2 to 6 years old which is ran in English, by professional, friendly and fun coaches.
As a father of two dual nationality children, me and my wife looked into the possible courses which we could send them to. We found that no courses were ran in English, or in any other language for that matter. I have played and coached football in the UK (my home country), the United States and Sweden and decided to utilize this experience to create a football course, which I could tailor to help fill this missing gap in the current market. The first course started in Gothenburg last summer, and due to its high success, we have decided to expand to Stockholm.
Soccer Starz is an 8 week long course which provides a fun and exciting introduction into the sporting world. We create a safe environment for the children to have fun and grow in confidence. The kids on the course come from all over the world, and so do our coaches, ensuring a high level of inclusivity. We design the lessons to be imaginative, highly engaging and varied to keep the children entertained and help develop a love for both football and learning.
The course is split into two age groups: Mini Starz is available for kids aged 2 to 4 years old and invites children to experience the world of sport and football. Through help and guidance from the coaches, parents and lots of fun equipment, we show them how fun and exciting learning and playing a sport can be. Here we focus on growing in confidence, individuality and acknowledgement of technique and practice. The learning is still passive, to encourage fun through learning, but we focus on ensuring that each child develops their abilities at their own pace.
Super Starz (ages 4 to 6 years old) aims to help the transition from fun and high-energy games involving a football, to being an important and respected part of the team. The games are still high energy and fun, but here we help develop teamwork and an overall aim of the football game. Communication, spatial awareness and confidence are all important aspects of football, which we will develop here, but ensuring we never miss the most important skill on the football pitch – FUN!
Each week of the course focuses on a “skill of the week” e.g. passing and shooting, which is introduced at the start of the lesson and the following games focus on direct and passive development of this skill. During the 60 minute lesson we do a warm-up game and 2 “drills”, which we vary each week to ensure every week is different. At the end of the session, we have 15 minutes “free play” with all the equipment and toys we bring along e.g. tunnels, hurdles, goals, balls, hula hoops. We communicate a lot with the kids during the lessons. We sit down and discuss the games, get to know each other and have fun.
Each child who attends the course receives a football, a football shirt and football shorts during the first class and a medal during the “award ceremony” of the last class.
