What is Mitt Livs Chans?
Mitt Liv AB (svb) is a social enterprise focused on a vision of an inclusive society and a labour market that values diversity. The core of our business currently centres on the mentoring program Mitt Livs Chans. This unique program/course aims to bridge the gap between qualified people of foreign background and the Swedish labour market.
Why does Sweden need an organization like yours?
Because we know, that today it takes an average of 7-9 years for a person of foreign background to make contact with the Swedish labour market. Added to this, eight out of ten jobs are recruited through the companies’ contact networks.
Mitt Liv is a social enterprise dedicated to increasing diversity and integration in the Swedish labour market. Today our work is focused on two groups; people of foreign background who are struggling to find work that matches their competence, and companies/organisations who value a diverse workforce. The Mitt Livs Chans mentor program brings these two groups together, offering every mentee a personal mentor from one of our partner companies.
How do you compare your organization with others and how does it stand out in comparison?
Because we provide a very concrete solution, we do not just talk about diversity. The purpose of the Mitt Livs Chans is to create a bridge where both groups can meet and gain valuable knowledge, competence and awareness from each other.
How can adepts apply for your program?
Through our website www.mittliv.com
Why do mentors apply for this program?
Because they want to make a real difference on an individual level. Our mentors receive an increased knowledge of diversity and inclusion. They get hands-on experience and professional development in coaching and mentoring. They expand their network and make new contacts, with both mentors and mentees in the programme. And for some it means meeting people they would not otherwise encounter.
What is the goal of this program and which rate of success do you have?
The results speak for themselves; 71% of mentees in the program have gained valuable contacts through their mentor and Mitt Liv, 54% of mentees secured relevant work experience/employment during the course of the program, and 86% of mentors gained new knowledge and insight and into diversity and integration.
How many adepts (called mentees) did you have from the beginning of the program until now (and when did it start)?
Over 1000 mentees have taken part in Mitt LivsChans since we started in 2008.
Tell us about the bracelets you created with the text ”mångfald”? Why is diversity your focus?
Because we believe diversity is absolutely vital for the Swedish society. Our vision is an inclusive society that values diversity. Diversity creates a better civilization where everyone has a place, it creates better organizations and better businesses.
What are your future plans for immigrants with academic background?
Mitt Liv plans to expand our programme in the regions in which we already operate, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Linköping/Norrköping and Malmö, in order to offer the opportunity to more mentees. We are also looking to establish Mitt Liv in other regions.
In which other way, apart from this program, do you think immigrants can integrate themselves?
We believe that we need meeting places to achieve integration in a natural way. My advice would be to join associations, activities of choice so that you can build your network in Sweden and understand how the society works.
Do you have anything else to add that would be of interest for our readers?
