Stockholm Christmas lights bring light into the darkness from late November until well into the new year. All the lights are officially lit up on the 21st of November, when a new Christmas market also opens at Sergels Torg.
Stockholm has put great effort to lighting up the streets during the darkest time of the year. The #Stockholmsjul initiative is now on its fifth year and this year it brings out 710 708 energy-efficient lights to many streets and squares in central Stockholm. The project with the Christmas lights is financed and run in cooperation between the city and real estate owners.
Beside light we hope our Christmas lights bring cheer and create a nice atmosphere. This year we have angels, elves, Christmas trees, reindeer, moose and a giant mistletoe to kiss under, says Lisa Haglund from City i Samverkan, the cooperation organ that takes care of the #Stockholmsjul Christms lights.
This year #Stockholmsjul also arranges a new Christmas market on Sergels Torg, which we are told takes some of its inspiration from Winter Village, which is held at Christmas time in Bryant Park in New York.
