Experience the Music Outdoors this August

Once again August is promising to be an awesome month when it comes to live music and festivals in Stockholm. We’ve put together our best picks of outdoor events you should not miss this month.

Stockholm Music and Arts

Music and arts take over Skeppsholmen once again, as the festival celebrates its fourth year at the waterside behind the Moderna Museet. The line-up this year includes the legendary Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, the Bösendorfer-playing feminist pop icon Tori Amos, the inimitable Swedish (punk) rock legend Thåström, the American blues-influenced vocal powerhouse Beth Hart, and many more. The programme also includes other forms of art from theatre to poetry to visual arts.

Some of the musical highlights on the main stage include Magnus Carlson with the Northern Soul Orchestra as well as Peter Hook (of Joy Division and New Order fame). On Skeppsbron you shouldn’t miss the Tensta Gospel Choir with Kristin Amparo and Sabina Ddumba on the 11th.

We are STHLM

Parallel with the Culture Festival, the younger Stockholmers get their own festival at Kungsträdgården with the most up-to-date Swedish music. That is where the youngsters are expected to gather on the last weekend before school starts. The one to watch is definitely chart-topping pop princess and self-proclaimed feminist Zara Larsson, who takes to the stage on the 15th. Also the Rockbjörnen award show on the 12th promises to be a big party, with Eric Saade and Molly Sandén confirmed to perform so far.

The Popaganda festival once again takes over the Eriksdalsbadet outdoor pool area and brings out many of the top Swedish artists together with some interesting international ones. The highlights on this year’s line-up include Denmark’s energetic , hyped New York rapper Angel Haze and soulful Briton James Blake. Rix FM Festivalen

The radio channel Rix FM has made it a tradition to tour the country with their summer festival, bringing along both Swedish and international artists who get to showcase their talents with a few songs each. The Stockholm festival’s line-up is looking pretty impressive with Bebe Rexha (the one who’s gonna show you crazy), Olly Murs (British heart-throb), Guy Sebastian (Australia’s Eurovision entry), Måns Zelmerlöw (Sweden’s Eurovision hero), Danny Saucedo, Sabina Ddumba and more. It’s all free and there are other activities in the park already from 12 o’clock.

Great overview, thanks! I can’t seem to find a regular agenda of all events in Stockholm online, do you know a good way to get an overview of everything that’s going on?

I hope we will be able to provide a continuously updated calendar of event picks in the future…
There is so much going on in Stockholm you can’t get all information from one place 😉 But anyway, I like this one myself: http://hejevent.se/stockholm
