Samhain Celtic Festival

With Halloween harvest behind us and winter fast approaching, why not embrace your inner pagan – and the cold – the Celtic way? Celebrate Samhain, one of the four seasonal Gaelic festivals,  with theater, music, poetry…and of course a good old Irish jig. Irish and Swedish artists of all types will be on stage.

When: Friday November 1, 7:00 p.m.

Where: Stallet, Stallgatan 7

Winter Vintage Market

There’s only one way to stay warm in a Stockholm snow storm: layers. Prepare properly for hibernation by stocking up at the Winter Vintage Fair. Here you’ll find cozy sweaters, dresses from the 30s, unique jewelery, understated hats, home decor and more. Plus there will be designers, artists, interior decorators and stylists all on-site!

When: Saturday November 2, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Where: Herrängens GårdSegeltorpsvägen 49-51, Älvsjö

Brunnsviken Festival of Lights

The sixth annual Festival of Lights at Haga Park  is the light at the beginning of the winter tunnel! The entire beach area arund the Brunnsviken lake will be illuminated, and there will be music, fairy tales, boat trips and more. Bring flares, buy torches, and charge up to get through the winter.

When: Sunday, November 3, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Where: Hagaparken

Cost: Free!

All Saints Day

Although nowadays any Swede loves a good American Halloween party, the traditional Swedish way to celebrate All Hallows’ Eve is a little bit more refined. This year All Saints’ Day, as the Swedes call it, falls on November 2. People buy lanterns and leave them on the graves of their ancestors or other loved ones, creating a glow throughout that is simply stunning to see. Ask a Swede if you can play tag-a-long, it’s a sight not to miss.

When: Saturday, Novemer 2, whenever you want.

Where: Any graveyard

Cost: Free, but bring a lantern if you can.

Travel Massive Instagram Walk

Travel Massive creates opportunities for travelers, travel media, and others in the travel industry  to get together, talk shop, network, and above all, relax. Stockholm’s first Travel Massive event is a free two-hour “Instagram walk” throughout Stockholm. You’ll see the best sights of Stockholm, meet new friends, take great pictures – and, oh yeah, did we say it’s free? Why wouldn’t you go?

When: Saturday, November 9, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Where: Starts at Hötorget

Cost: Free!

Nordic Romani Festival

The Romani are a large but often overlooked cultural group in Sweden. The Nordic Romani Festival is a fantastic multicultural event celebrating diversity and the contributions of the wandering folk. Two days will be filled with music, a mini film festival, seminars, book talks and workshops.

When: Party November 8, films and workshops November 9, film festival November 16-17, music festival November 22-23

Where: Södra Teatern and Stallet

NOVEMBER

Italian Wine and Delicacies Day

The ritziest – and tastiest – event of November has got to be Italian Wine and Deliacy Day at The Grand Hotel. You heard right. Meet wine importers and try their wares, along with bounties of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sublime sundried tomatoes, and of course chocolate. There will also be a visit from Strada del Barolo, a groupe of 15 wine producers straight from Piedmonte, Italy!

When: Saturday, November 23, 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Where: The Grand Hotel, Södra Blasieholmshamnen 8, Stockholm

Lights Electronic Music Festival

Like it came in, November goes out with lights. Lots and lots of lights. Lights is the new fall sister of hit Stockholm electronic festival Summerburst, and on the last day in November the new Tele2 Sports Arena will be transformed into Scandinavia’s largest nightclub. Celebrity DJ’s who will be playing include Tiesto, Dimitri Vegas, and Swedish group Nause.

When: Saturday November 30, starting 2:00 p.m.

Where: Tele2 Arena

Cost: 475 to 750 kr here

Stockholm International Horse Show

The annual Stockholm International Horse Show kicks off November 28 and prances through December 1. Horses will jump, dance, look pretty, and just generally blow your mind at the massive show and competition. It is the largest indoor equestrian event in the world in terms of spectators per day, so get your tickets now!

When: November 28 to December 1, see schedule

Hot Salsa Weekend at Debaser

Temperatures may drop, but at Debaser things are hot – at least the last weekend of November. Keep things sizzling salsa style at the Hot Salsa Weekend – five fantastic nights full of shows, parties, and intensive salsa workshops. Learn Cuban salsa, LA style, Mambo New York, Bachata, and more.

When: November 29 to December 2

Stockholm Film Festival

And finally, the one you’ve all been waiting for…The 24th International Film Festival will feature 170 films from more than 40 countries around the world, in every genre. Not only can you catch great films, but you can talk face t face with actors and directors, attend Red Carpet events, learn about film-making, and mingle with other guests!

When: November 6 to 17

Where: Various movie theatres, particularly Skandia, but see site for individual showings

Cost: Membership card 220 kr, movie tickets 50 – 150, Red Carpet events more
