We have many fashionistas among our readers who are always following closely what’s new in the world of fashion. You might recognise that Sweden has always been a constant contributor to trends with the country’s characteristic eclectic and minimalistic style. Perhaps you’ll want to think twice on this one, as this year’s Swedish Fashion Talents come with daring proposals that are a little more unconventional.
The show was visited among others by Swedish Moderarterna’s political party chairman Anna Kinberg Batra.
Just like previous years, eight upcoming fashion brands have been chosen for the Swedish Fashion Talents 2016. During 2016 these fashion talents will be a part of a project taking off during the Fashion Week in February in Stockholm. They are also all nominated for the award “Swedish Fashion Talents of the Year”.
On the 2nd of February we witnessed the presentation of the Swedish Fashion Talents 2016 during an exhibition and a catwalk show that took place at Kulturhuset in the heart of Stockholm.
What we could see in the collections was a mix of womenswear, menswear, footwear and accessories. It’s also good to mention that this year there’s an extra focus on unisex garments, which goes hand in hand with the Swedish way of looking at gender equality. You just gotta love it.
The style proposals are very bold. We could see an abundance of dark colours, earthy shades, oversize coats, skirts and accessories. Lots of twisted shapes and asymmetrical patterns. Personally I’ve been looking forward to the 90s making a comeback in fashion and it definitely looks like the 90s are in the house now.
Swedish Fashion Talents gives the opportunity for the participants to appear in showrooms, exhibitions or displays, and to take part in various activities and to network.
All eight talents are selected after an application period and a jury selection that goes from October to November. The selection process is focused on design, product, concept and quality.
